The Deen Dayal Sharma Educational Trust, which operates the Institute of Professional Studies in Roorkee, is the owner of two immovable properties worth approximately Rs. 1.97 crore that are located in the districts of Dehradun and Haridwar in Uttarakhand. The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has placed a temporary attachment on these properties against the proceeds of crime totalling Rs. 1.97 crore in the case of the SC/ST Scholarship Scam.

Based on a formal complaint (FIR) against Deen Dayal Sharma Educational Trust filed by P.S., SIDCUL, Haridwar, Uttarakhand, under several provisions of the IPC 1860, the ED opened an inquiry.

According to an ED probe, the Institute of Professional Studies in Roorkee fraudulently obtained a substantial number of scholarships from the Social Welfare Department in Haridwar on behalf of SC/ST students between 2013–14 and 2016–17. The university fabricated fraudulent statements in order to receive funding under the SC/ST Scholarship Scheme, it is also revealed.

The scholarship payments have been credited to the college’s account in the form of student personal expenses and tuition. The Deen Dayal Sharma Educational Trust trustees, Vivek and Ankur Sharma, embezzled the aforementioned sum, causing the public exchequer to suffer a significant financial loss.

The findings of the ED inquiry showed that the illicit funds were used for the trustees’ expenses and were transferred in cash to the bank accounts of the Deen Dayal Sharma Educational Trust or other college accounts. Additional research is underway.
