ED Files Prosecution Complaint Against Notorious Naxalite-Maoist Ramayan Rai in PMLA Court, Patna

Directorate of Enforcement (ED) filed Prosecution Complaint on 24.03.2023 before the Hon’ble Spl. PMLA Court, Patna against Ramayan Rai, S/o- Late Shivbachan Rai, resident of Distt- Gopalganj, Bihar, who is a Naxalite-Maoist, engaged in spreading the Naxal Organisation by alluring youth of uneducated and weaker/unprivileged group and also engaged in wrongful activities including collection of the levy. On the same day, the Spl. PMLA Court in Patna had taken jurisdiction.

On the basis of three FIRs filed at the Gopalganj Police Station in Bihar, where Charge-Sheets had already been filed against Ramayan Rai in two of the FIRs, the ED had begun an investigation under the terms of the PMLA. He has been accused of violating many provisions of the Indian Criminal Code, of 1860, the Guns Act, of 1959, and the Explosive Substance Act, of 1908, including murder, attempted murder, and levies collecting.

The investigation conducted under the PMLA in 2002 found that the accused had used the profits of the crime to buy a number of immovable properties in his wife’s name in order to portray them as clean. In accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act of 2002, the ED has tentatively attached moveable property in the name of Ramayan Rai’s wife, Smt. Kalawati Devi, valued at about Rs. 21 lakhs, as of January 31, 2022. There is now an ongoing inquiry into this subject.
