ED Files Case Against Sanjay Kumar Singh and Co-Accused in Bihar Disproportionate Asset Case

In a disproportionate asset (D.A.) case, the Directorate of Enforcement filed a Prosecution Complaint before the Hon’ble Special Court Patna, Bihar against Sanjay Kumar Singh, the then Executive Engineer, PHED, Samastipur, Bihar, and four other co-accused persons, namely Pushpa Singh, Abhishek Ashish, Anunay Ashish, and Ambika Prasad Singh. On 10.08.2023, the Hon’ble Special Court of Patna took cognizance of the aforesaid matter. 

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a money laundering investigation based on the Charge-Sheet in an FIR filed by the Economic Offence Unit (EOU), Bihar, Patna, in a disproportionate asset (D.A.) case against Sanjay Kumar Singh and others. 

The ED investigation revealed that the main accused, Sanjay Kumar Singh while working as an Engineer in the PHED Department of the Government of Bihar, amassed disproportionate assets totalling Rs. 1.83 Crore (approx.) between 15.07.1987 and 04.09.2013 in his name, the names of his wife Pushpa Singh, his sons Abhishek Ashish and Anunay Ashish, and his father Ambika Prasad Singh. The disproportionate assets totalling Rs. 1.83 crores were obtained by dishonest and unlawful means, in violation of numerous provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, by abusing his position as a Public Servant. 

Temporary Attachment On March 21, 2022, an order was issued for the attachment of properties worth Rs. 1.48 crore, which was affirmed by the Ld. Adjudicating Authority, New Delhi, in an order dated August 29, 2022. Five (05) immovable properties in the form of 04 plots of land and 01 residential flat with a book value of Rs. 65.45 lahks, 09 bank accounts with an available balance of Rs. 48.26 lahks, and 05 insurance policies with a surrender value of Rs. 7.69 lahks have been prayed for confiscation in the name of the main accused and her family members. More research is being conducted.
