ED launched a money laundering inquiry based on many FIRs filed by Kerala’s Crime Branch PS and Vellarada PS. The results of the ED’s investigation showed that money was taken from parents under the pretence of admitting their children to the Dr SM CSI Medical College in Karakonam, however, admissions were not granted even after the money was taken. Additionally, a portion of the funds was utilised to upgrade the facilities at Dr SM CSI Medical College in Karakonam, while the remainder was redirected to the parent organisation, the South Kerala Diocese (SKD).
Further investigation indicated that Dr Bennet Abraham and Most Rev. A. Dharmaraj Rasalam had derived/obtained proceeds of crime (POC) of Rs. 95,25,000/- by committing a scheduled offence. In contrast, a sum totalling Rs. 95,25,000 from the college’s bank account is provisionally attached as an equivalent value of the proceeds of crime via PAO dated 22.11.2022, as the proceeds of crime produced by Dr Bennet Abraham and Most Rev.
