Under the terms of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has temporarily attached properties in the form of bank balances, financial investments, and agricultural property located in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, valued at Rs 2.03 crore and belonging to Mrs. Neeharika Singh.
In the case of the Anee Bullion Industries scam, the Money Laundering Act (PMLA) of 2002 comes into play. The mastermind behind the scam, Ajeet Gupta, is married to Mrs. Neeharika Singh.
In 2019, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated an investigation into several FIRs and complaints filed by the UP Police against Ajit Kumar Gupta and other individuals or businesses. They were accused of defrauding the public of Rs. 110 crores by misleading them into investing in various dishonest schemes aimed at swindling them out of their investments.
Ajit Kumar Gupta and M/s. Anee Bullion Industries Pvt Ltd was found to have deceitfully gathered money from the public under the guise of daily deposit schemes, monthly recurring schemes, fixed schemes, etc by promising high returns that varied. This information was discovered during an ED inquiry from 20% and 40% of these programs.
The money raised from investors was accumulated in this way, layered over and over again via the network of “Anee Group” firms, and utilized to buy a variety of real estate under the names of Ajit Gupta and other individuals.
Previously, the ED had attached 20 immovable properties, totalling Rs. 7.07 crore, which included the lands and structures of the Anee group of firms located in Lucknow, Amethi, and Delhi.
