China and Thailand have been working together to stop human smuggling and other crimes that happen across their borders. Both countries believe this cooperation is legal and follows international laws. However, the United States recently criticized this partnership and even announced sanctions against Thai officials involved in sending certain individuals back to China.
Mao Ning, a spokesperson from China’s Foreign Ministry, responded strongly, saying the US has no right to interfere in the cooperation between two independent nations. Mao emphasized that this partnership helps both the nations protect their people and keep law and order.
The Chinese government also stated that it has a duty to look after its citizens. Recently, 40 Chinese nationals were found stranded in Thailand after illegally crossing the border under “wrong influence.” They had been in detention for over ten years, and China worked to bring them back home so they could reunite with their families and continue their normal lives.
US Criticism and Double Standards
Despite this, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced visa restrictions against Thai officials for their role in cooperating with China. According to China, the US is using this issue to pressure and control other countries while ignoring its own actions.
China pointed out that the US itself deports a large number of people every year. In the 2024 fiscal year alone, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported over 270,000 non-citizens to 192 different countries. This was the highest number of deportations in a decade.
China Warns U.S. Over Arbitrary Sanctions in Cybersecurity Clash
Mao accused the US of applying double standards. On one hand, the US forcefully removes illegal immigrants from its own country. On the other hand, it criticizes China and Thailand for working together on similar law enforcement matters. China described this as “typical bullying” and an attempt to interfere in the affairs of other nations.
China’s Response to US Actions
China made it clear that it will not accept the US trying to control or misrepresent its cooperation with Thailand. Mao Ning strongly condemned any false claims and illegal sanctions that target both the nations.
China also accused the US of using human rights issues as an excuse to interfere in its internal affairs. According to them, the US is trying to manipulate global opinion by bringing up unrelated political matters, such as those related to its Xinjiang region.
China Warns US Over Treasury Hacking Accusation; Slams it as Disinformation
Despite US criticism, China promised to continue working with other countries to maintain safety and law enforcement cooperation. Also stated that its main goal is to protect its citizens and ensure justice, just like any other responsible government.
Mao concluded that China will strengthen communication with other nations and work based on mutual respect and fair discussions. While it firmly opposes US interference, it remains committed to international cooperation that benefits all involved parties.
