ED Conducts Search Operations in Jammu and Kashmir Terror Funding Case, Seizes Incriminating Material and Digital Devices

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Srinagar Zonal Office, conducted search operations in Srinagar, Budgam, Kupwara, and Anantnag districts of Jammu & Kashmir under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, in connection with an investigation into the involvement of conspirators the participation of conspirators who worked hand in hand with educational consultancies to manipulate or arrange admission of Jammu and Kashmir students to various professional degrees, including MBBS, in Pakistan-based colleges, institutes, and universities.

The ED launched an investigation based on an FIR registered under various sections of the UA(P) Act and the IPC, as well as a chargesheet filed by CIK, Srinagar, and Jammu and Kashmir, against various accused persons, including Mohd. Akbar Bhat @ Zaffar Bhat, Fatima Shah, Altaf Ahmad Bhat, Qazi Yasir, Mohd. Abdullah Shah, Sabzar Ahmad Sheikh, Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Mohd. Iqbal Mir, Syed Khalid Geelani @ Khalid Andrabi, for their role in raising funding for terrorist activities under the guise of admitting Jammu and Kashmir students to various professional courses at Pakistan-based schools.

PMLA research has also found that many of these admissions are really part of the Technical Assistance Programme (TAP) and are granted to international students on a yearly basis for free or at a small fee. Nonetheless, heavy fines were imposed on the students, and the additional money was used to promote terrorism in a variety of ways on the orders of Pakistan-based handlers as well as those in Jammu and Kashmir. As of yet, the proceeds of crime totalling around Rs. 01 Cr. have been ascertained, and six persons have been discovered who was accepted to various universities in Pakistan by such elements.

Documents connected to immovable assets and extremely damning information, including digital devices relevant to the scheme, were found and confiscated during search operations. Further research is being conducted.
