China has strongly criticized the United States over its recent sanctions against Chinese individuals and a cybersecurity company. These measures were imposed by the U.S. Treasury Department, which accused them of involvement in a cyber hack linked to a group allegedly associated with China. In response, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday that the accusations lack credible evidence and called the sanctions “arbitrary and unreasonable.”
The U.S. claims that the Chinese company Sichuan Juxinhe Network Technology Co. and an individual, Yin Kecheng, were involved in hacking activities. These actions were supposedly connected to a group known as “Salt Typhoon.” However, China has rejected these allegations, saying they are based on hype rather than facts. The Chinese government strongly opposes such sanctions, claiming they are used unfairly to target Chinese entities.
China Accuses U.S. of Hypocrisy in Cyberspace
Mao Ning further accused the United States of engaging in large-scale cyberattacks against China for a long time. According to her, the U.S. has carried out systematic hacking activities, an issue that the Chinese government has repeatedly raised in international forums. She argued that instead of addressing these concerns, the U.S. continues to misuse sanctions against Chinese companies and individuals.
Mao emphasized that as two major global cyber powers, China and the U.S. should focus on cooperation rather than confrontation. Both nations share concerns about protecting critical infrastructure from cyberattacks, making cybersecurity an area where collaboration is essential. However, she said that the U.S. has ignored opportunities for dialogue and resorted to punitive measures, which harms trust between the two countries.

China has urged the United States to end what it calls “indiscriminate sanctions” and stop using cybersecurity concerns as a pretext for political and economic pressure.
Call for Dialogue and Equal Treatment
China has proposed that the two nations engage in open and honest discussions to address cybersecurity concerns. According to Mao, these talks should be conducted on the basis of equality, mutual respect, and adherence to international rules. She stressed that accusations should be backed by factual evidence and that neither country should misuse their power to impose sanctions unfairly.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also pointed out that maintaining peace and stability in cyberspace is crucial for both countries. She highlighted that cybersecurity affects not only governments but also ordinary citizens, businesses, and critical systems that people rely on every day.
China reiterated its stance that the U.S. should abandon its “wrongful practices” and work together to safeguard the shared digital space. By doing so, both nations could address their concerns in a constructive and cooperative manner, Mao stated.
This latest exchange highlights ongoing tensions between China and the U.S. over cybersecurity. While both nations are influential in the digital world, disagreements over alleged hacking and cyber policies continue to strain their relationship.
