The campaign focuses on educating the public about the dangers posed by foreign spies and the various methods they use to gather sensitive information. Unconventional Espionage Tools

In one example, a businessman discovered microphones hidden in a box of tissues during an overseas trip, turning a common object into a covert gadget.
Other examples include pens functioning as cameras, lighters as listening devices, and dragonfly-like drones for gathering intelligence. These revelations underscore the growing complexity of espionage, with foreign spies potentially using everyday items to collect sensitive information unnoticed.
Warnings about “Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing”

The Ministry shared the story of a university student who was financially supported by a so-called “generous donor” named Teacher L. In exchange for this financial support, the student, Little Wei, helped with research projects. However, once Wei secured a job with access to sensitive information, Teacher L coerced him into sharing this information.
The Ministry highlighted that such individuals could pose as benefactors or mentors to gain the trust of young students or professionals. Once trust is established, they might exploit the relationship to gain access to confidential information. This method of recruitment for espionage is especially concerning as it targets people who are unaware of the danger. Young students, eager to secure financial support or advance their careers, may fall into these traps without realizing that they are being manipulated for foreign interests.
Espionage through Courier Deliveries and Student Recruitment
The Ministry has raised alarms about the misuse of courier services for espionage. In one case, a foreign institution sent hazardous powder to a Chinese research center and non-native animals to disrupt the local ecology. These actions pose significant risks to China’s scientific advancements, environment, and public health. Additionally, foreign spy agencies are targeting students with false promises of lucrative job opportunities, only to later involve them in espionage activities, such as photographing military areas or collecting sensitive research materials.
The Ministry also warned about the dangers of online dating, where foreign spies may pose as attractive individuals to lure students into fake romantic relationships. These spies could use these relationships to manipulate young people into providing classified information or gaining access to sensitive sectors. This tactic further complicates the already growing challenges of espionage in the digital age.
