While this number is impressive, there is a significant catch: many Swiss workers are using AI in ways that go against company rules. This widespread use of AI, alongside the violations, raises important questions about how businesses are handling this powerful technology.
According to a study conducted by consulting firm KPMG, the adoption of AI among Swiss workers is exceptionally high. 77% of workers in Switzerland are using AI tools to make their jobs easier, more efficient, or even more creative. This is much higher than the global average, which stands at 58%.
AI has been integrated into a variety of workplace tasks, including research, content creation, data analysis, and even customer service. Tools like chatbots, automated writing assistants, and machine learning algorithms are becoming commonplace in offices, factories, and service centers alike. It’s clear that AI has found its place in many industries, helping workers complete tasks faster and often with greater accuracy.
However, there’s a significant problem that arises from this widespread use: the way AI is being used is not always in line with company rules and regulations. Many workers are turning to AI tools, often free and public, without fully considering the risks involved.
Rule Violations and the Dangers of AI Use
Despite its growing popularity, the use of AI by Swiss workers is not always by the book. The KPMG survey found that 50% of respondents admit to using AI in a way that goes against their company’s regulations. A major issue arises when workers upload sensitive company data onto public and free AI tools, where the information could potentially be accessed by others or used improperly.

The risks associated with these violations are not just hypothetical. In fact, 74% of workers said they don’t bother to double-check the results that AI provides. While AI can be a helpful tool, it’s not perfect. In many cases, AI can make errors or provide incomplete or incorrect information. And because workers are often too busy or trusting to verify the output, these mistakes can go unnoticed, leading to issues in the workplace. In fact, 63% of those surveyed reported having experienced errors at work because of AI’s involvement.
Another significant problem that has surfaced is workers passing off AI-generated content as their own. This is a concerning trend, as 69% of survey participants admitted to doing so. This practice can cause serious ethical concerns, especially when AI-generated work is submitted as original. It undermines trust and can lead to serious issues in areas like academic integrity, professional ethics, and even legal matters.
A Lack of Training and Growing Skepticism
The problems don’t end there. Even though so many workers in Switzerland use AI, less than half of them have actually received formal training on how to use these tools effectively. This lack of training means that many workers may be using AI incorrectly or not fully understanding its limitations, putting both their jobs and their companies at risk.

This lack of trust is echoed worldwide, with just 46% of people globally feeling confident about AI. This suggests that, while people are using AI tools, they may not feel entirely comfortable with their capabilities or the potential consequences of their use.
Despite this lack of confidence, the survey revealed that many people in Switzerland and around the world are in favor of having legal regulations in place to govern AI use. 65% of Swiss workers and 70% globally support legal frameworks to guide the use of AI in workplaces. This shows that while AI can be a helpful and powerful tool, people are aware of the risks and are calling for stronger rules to make sure it’s used safely and responsibly.
