Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have strengthened emergency assistance for Golden Visa holders living overseas under the country’s long-term residency programme, offering faster consular help, dedicated hotlines and rapid travel documentation for those stranded abroad.
The expanded support framework has come into focus after recent evacuation operations helped hundreds of residents return safely to the UAE following regional travel disruptions.
Officials confirmed that nearly 500 residents, including many holders of the UAE’s long-term residency programme known as the UAE Golden Visa, were assisted in returning home after flights were disrupted due to security tensions and temporary airspace closures in parts of the Middle East.
The operation was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, highlighting the country’s growing support system for long-term residents outside its borders.
Growing confidence in long-term residency
Despite geopolitical tensions in the region, interest in the UAE’s Golden Visa programme remains strong. Immigration consultants and visa service providers say they continue to receive inquiries from investors, entrepreneurs, professionals and skilled workers seeking long-term residency in the country.

The Golden Visa programme allows eligible individuals to live, work and study in the UAE without requiring a national sponsor, offering residency for five or ten years depending on the category.
Industry experts say steady demand for the visa reflects ongoing confidence in the UAE’s economic stability, business opportunities and quality of life.
Expanded consular services for Golden Visa holders
In October 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs introduced a new set of consular services designed specifically for Golden Visa holders who may face difficulties while traveling or living abroad.
The initiative marked the first time such extensive emergency support services were extended to long-term residents rather than being limited only to UAE citizens.
The goal of the programme is to ensure that Golden Visa holders receive assistance similar to nationals during emergencies such as conflicts, natural disasters, travel disruptions or document loss.
Under the programme, Golden Visa holders overseas can now access several types of assistance, including:
- Electronic Return Documents if their passport is lost or damaged while abroad
- A dedicated hotline that connects directly with officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- 24/7 emergency assistance, including help during evacuation operations or crises
In many cases, support may also extend to immediate family members — including spouses and children — as long as they are officially registered dependents with valid residence permits.
Fast return document for stranded residents
One of the most important features of the expanded services is the electronic Return Document, which allows Golden Visa holders to quickly travel back to the UAE if they lose their passport while abroad.

The document can be requested online through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or via the ministry’s smart mobile application.
Applicants must log in using their digital identity system, UAE Pass, which is widely used for accessing government services in the country.
To apply, individuals must upload a few key documents, including:
- A police report confirming the lost passport
- Details of their Golden Visa status
- A recent photograph with a white background
Officials say the process is designed to be fast and simple. In most cases, the electronic return document can be issued in around 30 minutes once the required information is submitted.
Conditions of the return document
The return document has several specific conditions designed to ensure it is used only for emergency travel.
Authorities say the document:
- Is issued free of charge
- Is valid for one entry into the UAE only
- Remains valid for seven days from the date of issuance
It cannot be used to travel to other destinations or to transit through third countries.
Once the individual returns to the UAE, they must arrange to replace or renew their passport and travel documents through normal procedures.
Strengthening protection for residents abroad
The UAE’s decision to extend emergency consular services to Golden Visa holders reflects the country’s broader strategy to attract and retain global talent, investors and skilled professionals.

By offering stronger protection and assistance even when residents are outside the country, officials aim to make the long-term residency programme more secure and appealing.
Recent evacuation efforts have demonstrated how the system can work in practice, providing reassurance to residents that help will be available during emergencies.
As geopolitical uncertainty continues to affect global travel, the expanded support framework is expected to play an important role in protecting the growing community of Golden Visa holders living and working around the world.
