Kenyan National Arrested in Goa for Human Trafficking; ED Custody Extended

On September 12, 2023, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) detained Newton Muthuri Kimani, a citizen of Kenya who was visiting India on a student visa, for his alleged involvement in immoral human trafficking. A production of Newton Muthuri Kimani was presented before the Honorable Court at Panaji, Goa. The Hon’ble Court has given ED custody from December 15, 2023, for a period of six days.

Based on a formal complaint (FIR) filed by Anjuna Police, Goa against two Nigerian nationals, Ms. Isralite @ Dorcast Maria and Olokpa, for their involvement in immoral human trafficking, the ED began an investigation. Under the guise of offering them work in the Indian hospitality sector, the accused individuals used to transport young African females to Goa and coerce them into prostitution.

Newton Muthuri Kimani was in charge of several accounts that were being credited with specific sums of money on behalf of different individuals involved in the unethical trafficking scheme, according to an ED probe. With the assistance of some suspected Hawala operators, this money obtained illegally was being transferred to Kenya and other nations via the Mpesa app and some foreign bank accounts. One Kenyan national and another Kenyan girl were recovered during a search operation in Anjuna, Goa, where they had been coerced into engaging in immoral trafficking by Ms. Isralite @ Dorcast Maria.

In addition, three search operations were conducted in Gujarat and Punjab based on the
information obtained, and the results included the seizure of digital devices and papers that may be used as evidence. Additional research is currently being conducted.
