Chhattisgarh Coal Levy Extortion Case: ED Seizes 91 Immoveable Properties Owned by Ms Saumya Chaurasia and Others

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) attached movable and 91 immovable properties valued at Rs 152,31,52,432/- beneficially owned by Ms Saumya Chaurasia, Deputy Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Suryakant Tiwari, Sunil Agrawal, and Sameer Vishnoi IAS via PAO No. 02/2022 dated 9.12.2022. 

An Original Complaint was filed on 5.1.2023 with the Adjudicating Authority (PMLA), New Delhi. After hearing arguments from both parties and providing an opportunity to all defendants, the Adjudicating Authority (PMLA), New Delhi, affirmed the ED’s attachment of the properties in its order dated 1.6.2023. 

In line with the Prevention of Money Laundering (Taking control of Attached or Frozen Properties Confirmed by the Adjudicating Authority) Rules, 2013, ED has taken control of 81 immovable properties and issued Eviction Notices in respect of 10 immovable properties. 

Earlier, ED had also issued 2 Provisional Attachment Orders on 29.1.2023 & 8.5.2023 for properties worth Rs 68.88 Crore belonging to Ram Gopal Agrawal, Treasurer of Chhattisgarh Congress Party, Devendra Yadav, MLA from Bhilai Constituency, Chandradev Prasad Rai, MLA from Bhilaigarh Constituency, Suryakant Tiwari, Ms Saumya Chaurasia, Chhattisgarh Civil Service Officer, Sunil Agarwal & others which are being adjudicated by PMLA AA. The ED has also taken note of the filing of another predicate crime in this fraud and is conducting an additional investigation.
