Under the PMLA of 2002, the ED has temporarily attached movable and immovable properties worth Rs. 30.50 crores that belong to Subhra Jyoti Bharali, who was the managing director of Industrial Co-operative Bank Ltd. (ICBL) at the time.
Movable properties totaling 87,70,000 shares of Sashi Kumar Tea Company Pvt Ltd and corresponding/ proportionate immovable properties totaling 2313B-4K-15L of Tea Estate in Simlitola, Goalpara owned by SKTCPL and 36B-4K-5L of agricultural land in Rani, Kamrup (Rural) district worth Rs 30.5 crore were identified and provisionally attached by the ED.
Bhabnanda Bharali, who presently serves as the company’s representative, is thought of as Subhra Jyoti Bharali’s close business colleague because they both serve on the boards of the same two businesses, Asomi Holdings and Asomi Consultancy Services.
Modus Operandi of Subhra Jyoti Bharali
Exorbitant sums were credited in the accounts kept in the names of payment collectors and field executives (PCs & FEs) of the Industrial Co-operative Bank under the pretence of salary, incentive, and travel allowance, according to an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate.
All of the accounts with Industrial Co-operative Bank that were kept in the names of PCs and FEs were run by Subhra Jyoti Bharali, and a sizable portion of the money that was paid in salary, incentives, and travel expenses went missing either through cash withdrawals or transfers to accounts kept in the names of entities, family members, associates, and mules that were beneficially owned, controlled, and run by Subhra J.
