Properties worth Rs. 15.03 crore have been attached by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in connection with the West Bengali teachers recruitment scam. The associated properties include shares, mutual funds, residential apartments, land, and bank accounts. The assets that have been attached to them belong to the three accused individuals, Kuntal Ghosh, Ayan Sil, and Santanu Banerjee, who served as middlemen in the illicit collecting of funds from aspirants for the position of primary teachers. The sum of the seizures and attachments related to the scandal is currently Rs. 126.70 Crore.
The West Bengal Teachers Recruitment Scam has resulted in the arrest of seven people, including Partha Chatterjee, MLA and former education minister of West Bengal; Ms Arpita Mukherjee; Manik Bhattacharya, MLA, TMC and the former president of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education; Kuntal Ghosh; Santanu Banerjee; Ayan Sil; and Sujay Krishna Bhadra.
The Hon’ble Special Court (PMLA), Kolkata ordered Souvik Bhattacharya and Smt. Satarupa Bhattacharya to Judicial Custody upon their presence before the court following the filing of the Prosecution Complaint against them.
Additionally, the ED filed a Prosecution Complaint on September 19, 2022, followed by 3 Supplemental Complaints on December 7, 2022, and March 21, 2023, respectively, in the case against numerous Accused Persons/Entities. Additional investigation is being conducted.
