AML Enforcement attaches properties worth Rs. 5.06 Crore belonging to Aarti Charitable Educational Trust

In the matter of the SC/ST Scholarship Scam, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has temporarily attached an immovable property worth Rs. 5.06 crore located in Haridwar (Uttarakhand) that belongs to the Aarti Charitable Educational Trust, which manages the Amrit Group of Colleges, Roorkee. 

Based on the FIR filed by the Haridwar Police, Uttarakhand, under several IPC sections, ED began the investigation under PMLA. Investigations have shown that Amrit Group of Colleges in Roorkee unlawfully obtained significant amounts of scholarships from the Social Welfare Department in Haridwar between 2011–12 and 2016–17 in the names of SC/ST students.  

It has come to light that the school submitted fictitious applications for scholarships under the SC/ST Scholarship Scheme, which Amrit Group of Colleges, Roorkee then stole and misused to defraud the public purse while gaining unjustified financial advantage for themselves. 

This illegally obtained money was used for the trust’s costs and then withdrawn in cash, according to an investigation under the PMLA. It was also redirected to the trustees of the Aarti Charitable Educational Trust’s personal bank accounts or to other accounts within the college. 

In addition, a property worth Rs. 1.45 crore in the form of land in the Haridwar district, owned by the Wali Gramme Udhyog Vikas Sansthan, Roorkee, which manages the Techword Wali Gramme Udhyog Vikas Sansthan, Group of Institutions, Roorkee, and another property worth Rs. 5.62 crores in the form of land and a building, owned by the Seth Bimal Prasad Jain Educational Trust, which manages The total attachment, in this case, up to this point is Rs. 12.13 billion. The probe is being expanded upon.
