In connection with the Disproportionate Assets (DA) Case, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has temporarily attached immovable assets valued at Rs. 40.20 lakh that belong to Biraj Mohan Mohanty and his wife Smt. Sibanee Mohanty, as well as movable assets in the form of bank balances.
The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and various sections of the FIR filed against Biraj Mohan Mohanty, S/o Late Pramod Chandra Mohanty, an erstwhile Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) in the office of the District Forest Office, Wild Life Division, District Bhadrak, and his wife Smt. Sibanee Mohanty served as the basis for the ED’s investigation. Following that, a charge sheet resulting from the aforementioned FIR was also submitted to the Honorable Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore.
According to an ED probe, Biraj Mohan Mohanty amassed wealth illegally for himself and his family to the tune of Rs. 57.60 lakh by accumulating assets that were out of proportion to his recognized sources of income. Through the conduct of planned offences, he obtained the profits of crime, which he disguised and used to create a variety of assets in his and his family’s names in an effort to conceal their origins and present them as pure. As a result, the accused parties’ properties totalling Rs. 40.20 Lakh have been attached in accordance with PMLA, 2002 provisions. Further research is now being conducted.
