Directorate of Enforcement has filed Prosecution Complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) on 04/08/2023 against Raghunath Behera, his brother Bharat Behera, Soumyakant Mohanty and his wife Biswakalpana Mohanty, in the Court of the Sessions Judge, Khurda at Bhubaneswar – Cum- Special Court (PMLA), Bhubaneswar with prayer for conviction of the accused and confiscation of attached properties worth Rs. 46 Lakhs which have been confirmed. On August 9, 2023, the Special Court received the prosecution complaint.
On the basis of the FIR and Charge Sheet filed by CID, Crime Branch Odisha under various sections of the IPC against Raghunath Behera, Soumyakanta Mohanty, and others in connection with defrauding a number of credulous students in Odisha and elsewhere by making a false promise to provide MBBS seats in various Medical colleges, ED launched an investigation under the PMLA. In Odisha, multiple police stations submitted chargesheets and lodged numerous more FIRs against the same accused parties and their accomplices.
Earlier, the ED had issued a Provisional Attachment Order dated 09/12/2022, which was later affirmed by the Ld. Adjudicating Authority (PMLA) on 01/06/2023, attaching assets worth Rs. 46 Lakhs.
